Hi i did buy a Snell TBS800 and it looks to work very good it does have firmware 3.05c and 3.05b i think latest is 3.05d but the servers are down so i can not get it :/
i did have little problem to get the web interface to work but after about 2 hour trial & error i did get it to work i think it needs older web browser 32 bit or Chrome "IE TAB" plugin and Java 1.6 to get it to work but now it works and now i can remote control it with web browser
in Snell TBS800 i have
Comb filter = Enable
Analog NR = Enable
Sync Mode = Enable
everything else is Disable
here is some screen shots
Panasonic NV-HS930 TBC ON > S-video > Snell TBS800 > SDI > AJA IO HD
Panasonic NV-HS930 TBC ON > Composite > Snell TBS800 > SDI > AJA IO HD
Panasonic NV-HS930 TBC ON > S-video > AJA IO HD
Panasonic NV-HS930 TBC ON > Composite > AJA IO HD
Congratulations on your new device, I gotta setup mine with web interface too to get to the settings, Though you can still access most of the settings from the front panel and LCD display.
In the first two examples is the Aja is just used as a raw digital ingest using SDI, or it is used in analog capture mode and the TBS800 is in analog passthrough, If it is the later connect it in ingest mode and post two more samples, Video samples are preferred.
The 3rd and 4th screenshots are a little bit noisier but I can't comment until I know the exact workflow connections, Overall all screenshots are noisy but that could be that the VCR is in sharp mode.
I've also noticed in the Aja only screenshots there is a slight flagging at the top, about 1 degree bend, While the TBS800 has a perfectly square frame, this demonstrates the capability of the TBS800's line TBC as I demonstrated it over at vhelp.

Hi yes SDI from Snell TBS800 to AJA io HD i did edit the post now and i capture in Prores 422 LT
the TEST vhs Tape i have recorded with Panasonic nv-fs200 not sure how good or bad that VCR is
Yes definitly the TBS800 is way better than the Aja card in analog mode as the Aja lacks line TBC, So just keep using it in digital ingest mode then.
The TBS800 can also be used in analog passthrough, There is a guy who demonstarted it with the BM Intensity Shuttle on YouTube, But I think it was the 600 model which are very similar.

Odd that it would be able to correct for anything given that the TBC on the VCR is enabled in all of the samples (unless they are mislabeled).
OP also specified that noise reduction was on on the TBS so it makes sense that the videos/screens without it would be noisier.
For some tapes the line TBC in the VCR is the one that creates flagging, So an external line TBC re-time those line errors, As I posted before in other threads I was impressed by the TBS-800's line TBC.
I put little more Video Samples i hope it does not take to much space if it does admin can delete it of course

B.E.S.T should be left on, It calibrates the videoheads pre-amp based on the tape formulation and the RF signal level recorded on tape, OSD should be OFF during capturing, Digital 3R is okay to be OFF but it may help with some tapes.
Composite samples are very predictible, The difference is always sharper luma and less chroma artifacts. What are the setting for the TBS800?
I have also noticed in the Nokia VCR samples wwhich are filled with dot crawl, expected for a regular VCR, the TBS800 has actually a very good comb filter, it removed most of it except in the transition lines which is hard to eliminate.
Have you tried the TBS800 in analog passthrough, I know it is not necessary to convert back to analog but just to see how it performs in that mode.

Thanks for the setting tips
i have not yet test the analog passthrough with the test tape but i did test it with some other tapes the first day i did get the Snell TBS800
