You haven't described the issue in great details: does the display lit up, does the drum spin, does the tape insert then eject etc...
I suggest this (because that's an easy fix and generally a good culprit on these old decks) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ0I2GPxlaw
Could be a drum servo issue among other things...

Seems like it's not picking up the tracking signal properly. Would first try to clean the audio/control head and re-seat the cable going to it.

Please what is the best mode to transfer vhs tennis matches video tv recordings. I am doing so: If my video is 3,5 h long I am dividing it on two dvd's and record it in fr105 mode. It's a good way if I don't want to divide it on multiple dvds recording in xp mode? Thanks.

I have tried several recording modes and the only similar/the same to original tape is XP mode Should transfer my tapes with XP mode and use some encoder to encode it to some smaller dvd size? Thanks.

Probably. If FR160 isn't good enough, then only XP works. Rip the DVD-R/RW to the computer, and then we can discuss transcode to different bitrates via VBR, or another format entirely. Just start the process, run 2-3 tapes through the full process.

- You have to properly decompile the disc in DVD Decrypter. VOBs are not MPEGs.
- Transcode MPEGs in Avidemux.
- Re-author DVD in Simple DVD Creator (menu-less).

I have tried several recording modes and fr90 seems to be best compromise in quality and lenght.

My jvc m100 recorder stopped recording on DVD-RW disc. When I push rec and play on remote nothing happens. I formatted the disc with DVD video format and it was properly.

I have question. My vhs recorder after inserting vhs tape plays tape on his own and after few seconds it 's turning off. In the link is the video of the process. When unplugging power supply for couple hours and turning on one more time it plays fine but after some time problem is the same.

Normally I'd guess the VCR in question to have a failed dynamic drum which it looks like that model (HR-J712) does not have that, so this is not the problem. My next guesses would be either the mode switch is dirty, there's a sensor issue, or possibly a power supply capacitor issue which gives erratic voltages/AC noise that the VCR's electronics don't like.
Would try cleaning the mode switch first if you haven't already - That's usually involves removing the deck from the rest and you have to be careful not to do damage the thin ribbon that comes off of the head in the process.

The mechanism is not working and is turning off the vcr.

You most likely misaligned the mode switch wheel.

Since my jvc is dead I have question which vcr would be better Jvc hr j686 or Panasonic nv hd610. I think Jvc has metal guide rollers and Panasonic has plastic which is important when doing several misalignment of tapes? Thanks.

I have Jvc hr j668 and gave it to technician to repair it. He told me that I shouldn’t adjust tracking with guide rollers because this will damage the vcr. So I am confused if I can do it to align to bad recorded tapes if I do it cautiously? Thanks.
