I hope this is a nobrainer for you guys familiar with MiniDv and DVCAM decks. I'm chugging my way trough a big bunch of MiniDv tapes for a client. However, I just discovered that for a certain tape with around 10 minutes left the playback stops when there's a time code change. Or to be fair, the machine tries to continue playing but the time code kind och flickers in a jerky manner and no video is sent to the FireWire output, however to the analogue output I use for reference where the video coincides with the jumping time code. (Se attached video.)

If I out the tape into a Dv camera the tape plays all the way to the end. At the moment I feel a bit uncomfortable since I don't know for how many tapes the machine has been doing this. (Didn’t hook up the analogue monitor until now so all I’ve seen on other tapes is that the reproduction through FireWire has stopped, making me conclude that the tape had reached its end. I might have to compare all the captured files with their corresponding tape in the Dv camera before delivering to client.

Use ScLive and try split scene by scene capture, It looks like you have tapes with SP and LP programs which confuses Premiere pro, Why would you use Premiere Pro for this type of work? it sucks.

I don't use Premiere for capture, I use WinDv. However the capture app has no control over the deck. The player behaves the same way regardless of if it's connected by FireWire or not.

Well try Sclive. WinDV is very old.

Edit: I now discovered that one of the tape shows the described error from beginning to end. But works fine when played in the MiniDv-camera.

Thanks, but again the capture app does not seem to be the problem. It's the behaviour of the Sony player with jumping timecode and corresponding jerky playback on the analog output

Those were the work horses back in the day, Try cleaning the heads otherwise it probably has worn video heads and it is on the last days of her life. Camcorders are better because most of them didn't get used much.
