IuVCS captures PAL in wrong framerate?

Hello.

I'm using iuVCS Deluxe on an old Windows XP machine (with a Leadtek Winfast DVR 3100H tuner card) and I'm currently experiencing some problems with capturing PAL sources.

The software is flawless when using an NTSC source (such as a Hi8 camcorder), it captures it just fine and creates an uncompressed AVI file with the correct framerate (29.97 frames-per-second)

However, when using a PAL source, the software still outputs 29.97 frames-per-second AVI files (and every 5th frame gets duplicated)

The reason for using iuVCS is because it is the only software (that I know of) that can decode the proprietary CXF2 (Conexant Falcon?) codec that my capture card is using.

If someone can suggest me an alternative software (that can still decode CXF2) or a way to fix my issue with iuVCS, I'll greatly appreciate it.

When was the last time you tried VirtualDub?
And which version was it?

With those old cards (which aren't great; not best, not worst) VirtualDub 1.9.x should work quite well. You can choose all aspects of the video, from PAL source, to 25fps, etc.

I tried VirtualDub on my machine (VirtualDub 1.10.4) but it captures CXF2 as is (it doesn't do any decoding), and I can't open the AVI file it creates with anything (even VirtualDub cannot open it)

1.10 added known flaws (and is what VirtualDub2 is based on, which is why it's also usually bad for capture).

What codec did you capture with?

I'll try to explain it as best as I could.

The capture card uses CXF2 codec (which is "Conexant Falcon Video", a proprietary codec (uncompressed))
The card can only capture in CXF2.
I attached a sample (recorded with VirtualDub), I can't open it with anything (as expected)

The iuVCS software contains a filter called "Conexant Color Format Converter" which converts the proprietary "CXF2" codec into normal uncompressed AVI on the fly (YUY2)
I also attached a sample (recorded with iuVCS)

Someone made an avisynth plugin back in 2007 (on Doom9 forum) which converts CXF2 into normal uncompressed avi (YV12) but the download link since long gone.

Then get a new capture card.

(1) You're punishing yourself.
(2) Proprietary codecs have no longevity, and eventually you won't be able to open the videos in anything.

Quality capture cards are relatively cheap, all are under $200.

This a main reason I've always been critical of Doom9. Authors make stuff, and then it's lost when the hotlink files disappear.
