Hi!

I'm using a Sony camcorder from the 90s with s-video. The capture card is a pinnacle 710 usb, from Lordsmurf.

Virtualdub 1.9.11. Lagarith lossless.
The data displayed in Virtualdub shows under "sync" and "current error" , 1ms- 80ms. Often 0ms, but sometimes it can be as high as 80ms, or 2-7 ms. Specially one capture suffers from this.
Im considering to switch to huffyu, since its also lossless?

When i try to recapture the same hi8 casettes, the problems with audio out of sync are not in the same places. It can be fine in over 30 minutes, or start when I start to capture. Should "sync" in virtualdub always be at 0ms? or are small variations 2-3ms okay?

Quick update. I will try again tomorrow, but this time my pc will only be running virtualdub ( just capture) too see if that helps. My computer were running multiple programs while running virtualdub. I'll update you guys tomorrow.

With virtualdub set up via various guides, the thing to watch for is dropped frames. If you have a bunch of dropped frames that are not immediately followed by a roughly equal number of inserted frames, you are guaranteed to have audio sync issues. The fix is usually a frame TBC if you have quite a few dropped frames. Not running anything else on the PC and being disconnected from the internet (turn off wifi and/or unplug ethernet) are important as well. You could also try AmarecTV if all else fails.

0 dropped frames, never had any. But I do have problems with virtualdub showing a preview windows. It varies if virtualdub shows it. And today I couldnt get audio to sync at all. I will try to turn off WIFI. I'll give a new update tomorrow.

I have innstalled amarecTV, but I have never got it work.

Huffy and Lagarith are both lossless but Huffy is preferred because Lagarith is more compressed even though it’s losslessly compressed. Lagarith uses more of your CPU and ram to encode it. You can install Huffy using Hofmand’s installer. https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vid...-huffy-install

Do you have the right timing settings for that card? https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vid...ure-stops.html

Are you in preview mode instead of overlay?

What is your CPU percentage at?

Are you using an SSD for your OS and a HDD for capture?

Huffy is installed, I have tried it , but it made no difference. Other captures are okay, so i dont think i need to correct the time settings. CPU are on 30 % when I use Lagarith.
Yes, I am in preview mode.
But the preview window in VirtualDub dosen't always show. Its like its a bug in the version I use (1.9.11). And often I'll get an error " cant capture video". I have to restart the program and try again.

SSD for OS and SSD for capture (tried external and internal).

I haven't tried disconnecting WIFI and not run anything else on the PC.

External is a bad idea.

Make sure that you aren’t previewing the audio.

In the end this will come down to no TBC but im just helping with your other settings.

s-video is great, but TBC is what really matters.

There's also byte encoding issues that happen, causing glitched video captures. It's just not a good codec for realtime sustained compression.

If you have audio acting oddly, you may have the wrong settings for that card. Screencap of the timing settings window required.

You have to select the card again from the Device menu, then wait some seconds. It just needs a reminder that it's really there.

This is undoubtedly the core issue. You can try other cards (and what he has now is easily the best at this scenario), and you can try other software, and try fiddling with settings. All of that helps make it "less worse", but it won't resolve the issue. But at the end of the day, lack of TBC is the issue.

The audio is in sync now. I had to turn of resync in virtualdub. The only problem I have is that the preview windows wont work 98 prosent of the time I use virtualdub. So I always have to capture "blind"

Yes, I name the capture file before i start.
Just tried external to see if it helped, I always use internal.

The audio problem is fixed, but the error " unable to start capture" happens all the time. I have no idea how i fix this problem, its just sometimes work when i plug and unplug the capture card.. Its also a problem with the preveiw windows in virtualdub, and other software. Amarec have never worked for me ( graph error).
