Having read much information on this incredibly useful forum, I've managed to source an ATI All-in-Wonder X800 GT PCI-E with all CDs, proprietary cables (initial breakout cable from back of card and domino box with RCA inputs) and even the remote. Only thing missing was the manual but that's not an issue.

Only thing I don't have at the moment is an SVHS player with TBC. The models listed on this forum are seemingly now incredibly hard to find in the UK, but I'm keeping an eye out and for now, I'm using an old Panasonic NV-SD240 for testing which works and produces reasonable picture quality.

I have set up an XP machine with the card and having spent much of the afternoon getting it installed (including three re-installs of XP) I am at a stage where I have the ATI drivers which came with the card installed, including MMC, which opens and I can output video.

I have a few questions, however.
  1. The version of MMC is 9.03 which works. When I upgrade to 9.16, the TV application no longer opens and I'm left with "The TV player failed to initialize". So I've had to downgrade to get this working. Perhaps it was a driver mismatch, I'm not sure. Is this a known issue and are there any known fixes?
  2. In MMC 9.03, the DTV button in the sidebar also presents this error, but not the TV button. I'm assuming this is fine?
  3. The 10.2 Catalyst drivers refuse to detect my card. I have noticed the hardware ID is not listed in the INF file within that driver, so this is likely why, but it's confusing as AMD still host this driver on their site for my card and yet it won't install. Again, just wondered if there were any known issues here or fixes? Am I missing out on anything from using the driver included on the CD (version 6.14.10 dated 27/7/2005)?
  4. I have just tested a VHS tape and the video appears on the screen and I can hear the audio. However, I'm getting a constant clicking (a static click) almost precisely every second. When unplugging the domino box to isolate the VHS player, the clicking remains, so it's definitely being generated by the card. I seriously hope this isn't a hardware issue. I almost feel like this is interference. Again, is this a known issue and are there any fixes?

That's all for now although I expect there'll be more to come!

Thanks

Luke
