It's been a long time since I installed huffyuv on this computer but I don't remember it being difficult. I now have a "new" refurb windows 7 pro fresh install, I have amarectv on it and it captures my video. Now I am trying to install the huff codec and I've been reading / trying all the instructions I find for the last 3 hours with no luck. I don't remember it being as difficult as all the instructions i find about logging in as administrator, editing the registry and all that. I did find some sort of installer package but that page doesn't work for me. I'm hoping someone just has an easy solution and let's just say for the total computer novice as in.... if it gets complicated with alot of "ihjd889ZA90xi90ac" type of stuff , don't even bother because I won't be able to understand that. I'm hoping someone has a link to an installer or somewhat simple. One issue many state get a command prompt and it will be titled admin command prompt , when I do it it just is titled admin c:c or whatever so right at the beginning I don't know if I'm doing it correctly. Thanks in advance, I know there are numerous threads but they seem complicated and I can't make them work.

I would use Hoffman’s installer https://github.com/hofmand/video-codec-installers

That will install the original 32 bit version and not the multi thread or the CNESP hacked version of Huffy.

With the command prompt part you change directory (cd ) to where you downloaded the msi. You can hold shift and right click on the spot where your msi. is downloaded and that well give an option to open command prompt there and that is the location you would type in but it would be into a command prompt with admin privelages.

If you have already installed the CNESP version then you have to delete it first by
Delete HUFFYUV.INF in C:\Windows\INF if existing
Delete HUFFYUV.DLL in C:\Windows\System32 if existing
Delete HUFFYUV.DLL in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 if existing
In a administrator command window (i.e. CMD), run HuffYUV_x86_v2_1_1.msi and HuffYUV_x64_v2_1_1.msi

Here’s some pics to make it easier.

I'm making some progress. I have downloaded the 2 msi files. Yesterday I couldn't find them but today boom, there they are so I got the 2 msi files downloaded. I went in the areas you've stated and deleted stuff and I also had a couple huffy folders and this and that with huffy so i deleted all that cleaned registry deleted everything. I also figure out how to get the command prompt as admin. so I got that far and that's where I'm stuck as far as what to do now that i have command prompt with admin priv. open.
My files are in C:\users\james\downloads but I don't know what to type into the command prompt area. so that's where I'm stuck at this point. Thank you very much for the help so far and you probably have the answer for this also.

i got both msi installed and can now record. I thought it was not working but for format i had mjpg selected i switchet to 720 x 480 30 fps yuy or whatever and that works and seems to look good. It only has 30 or 60 fps to select from in all different sizes but 720 x 480 29.97 is what I used on this computer and on the new setup the only 720 x 480 is 30fps and I don't know what I want but it seems to look ok. All i'm trying to do is put laserdiscs onto a small ssd drive that my streaming media player will play on my tv because I watch them alot and would like to save wear and tear on the laserdisc player, I also like to edit the audio as I tend to "crank it up" during guitar solos so I edit the audio so it happens automaticly. I did notice when I used to go out of my player into the usb live 2 capture device it gave me the 29.97 or whatever and the 59 what ever numbers but with hdmi into the usb converter its all 30's and 60's so I know nothing about that. next step is record to the ssd drive and see if my media player will play it. but for now I guess you've got me all fixed up. I'm so obssesive compulsive a problem like that drives me crazy , but it is recording now and looks fine to me, it's only a 32 inch tv and I've got the kramer output to lowest res. or whatever 480 p I guess, some forums people state don't try to upscale or whatever because it doesn't do a good job but I don't know how good it has to be for laserdisc. I also plan on probably capturing video from CED discs , if you remember the old rca selectavision players.

Be careful with deleting things from the registry. I don’t think I said anything about deleting from the registry. The CCESP version works it’s just better to use the original 32 bit version for capture. You can download the 64 bit version also. You will need the 64 bit version of you use 64 bit Avisynth plus later and it doesn’t hurt to have both of them.

I had read about deleting the CCESP version from here.
https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/...FYUV-on-Win-11

I deleted my CCESP version through a clean install of the OS but I think the way they did it is better.

If someone just uses Hoffman’s installer first they won’t have to worry about all of the CCESP and multithread or deleting anything and it’s pretty simple. That’s the simplest best way to get Huffy. Just use the installer off the bat.

You can move the files where you want before you go into command prompt to change the directory to that location. They will be in your downloads folder unless you change it.

You type in the location of your file in the first line which I circled in red in the picture then after you press enter that mounts the drive and then you type in the name of the msi file which you can see below the line that I squiggly red circle type shape around.
Make sure you read the directions installer also.

I know nothing about AmerecTV so I can’t help you there sorry.

i didn't delete registry stuff just the files you said and I had a couple huffy folders and some other files from the website that were jsdx or some weird letters at the end , they weren't in registry they were just different things i had downloaded and I just thought it best to delete all of them and just start with the msi files, at first it didn't record i messed up and chose mjpg format when I wanted the one directly above that one and it seems to work, so hopefully now I'm set to record and try it out on my media player. Thanks again

HUFFY files aren’t really meant for viewing. Lossless files are good because they can withstand filtering and
can be encoded multiple times without loss. They are good for editing than people encode to whatever lossy file they want after they have deinterlaced and cleaned up the file for distribution and so that it can be easily played on different players. Media player won’t play a Huffy file but VLC will.

Here’s the download for VLC and you are welcome.

Here’s the picture where I circled the change directory part. I just realized I didn’t upload it earlier.

I have now been able to record using huffyuv and I also tried lagarith and yes, neither play on my streaming media player . I have been trying a few different converters or whatever but no luck they give errors about kernel32 or something. So I was thinking of something to convert either the huff or lags to mp4 or mkv and it has to be something that works in windows 7.

Converting to MP4 without cleaning up the file defeats the purpose of capturing losslessly. This site is more what is the best way. You can use VLC to convert to H.264 and upload it as interlaced but it will look REALLY bad. Using Staxrip or Hybrid would be good for cleaning up and converting to h.264. I only say Staxrip because Selur recommends it for people that aren’t really experienced. I don’t think it’s as much experience as it is just willingness to look into things. Both Hybrid and Staxrip are GUIs and encoders.

i got handbrake on this (windows 11) computer and that works and looks fine to me and plays in my streaming media player, I couldn't get it to work on my windows 7 though tried some older versions. Then tried vidcoder on the win 7 computer, again needed an old version and it also works fine for me. I'm pretty picky but it looks fine to me and it's only on a 32 inch tv and it's laserdisc so it's not going to be some sort of 4k deal, Basicly just have some discs that I want to play alot and don't want to wear out my player. Hopefully no more questions from me, I had been previously burning to dvd but I thought it would be easier to just have them on hard drive so I have different steps to take or steps I no longer have to take, but trying to get it all done on the "new" windows 7 computer. Thanks again.
