Hi, I am having difficulty getting my new Pinnacle USB capture card working.

Current pc: Core 2 Quad, 4GB ram, R7870 GPU.
OS: Win XP (SP2 and SP3 on separate HDDs for troubleshooting)
Virtualdub and 32bit pinnacle drivers versions from forums.
Workflow: PAL Panasonic NV-HS950 > DVK-100 > Pinnacle > PC

- Card shows up as selectable in virtualdub.
- No options for changing source in vdub menu.
- Shows 'generic' NTSC and incorrect resolution in capture pin menu. Not changeable to PAL.
- Using S-Video but tried with composite and still nothing.
- Tried without DVK (VCR>Pinaccle>PC) same result
- Error "Unable to start capture"
- Tried on a windows 7 dell laptop, and windows 11 desktop, with the 64bit drivers and crossbar thing, same result.
- SP3 was an existing install. Tried a clean install which was SP2.
- Tried 'crossbar thing' on SP3, vdub reported 25fps but won't capture. Saying settings not compatible with AVI files with Huffyuv codec selected. No preview.
- Couldn't run 'crossbar thing' SP2 install because it was missing too many dependent updates.

When testing is it vital to have the DVK connected? I wanted to make sure the capture card was working as is because it was initially having the same problem with or without it.

I'm really lost. Could anyone please help?
(will be able to reply and follow advise after I get some sleep)

Hmm. You have multiple issues here. Let's start here:

I have never seen Crossbar Thing not want to run. That is a problem. And I know it runs in SP2.

- What is missing? Do you just need to add some .NET updates, or something along those lines?
- What is the error on attempted install?

- Did my advice help you? Then become a Premium Member and support this site.
- For sale in the marketplace: TBCs, workflows, capture cards, VCRs

Got some sleep and ready to continue.

Figured out installation of crossbar thing. Needed the following updates installed in this order:

- Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435)
- Windows Imaging Component (32-bit)
- dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe

Is there perhaps a better version of XPSP2 I could have started with? Mine is an ISO from internet archive. Pro Version 2002 with Service Pack 2 install. (Archive Identifier: WinXPProSP2ENG).

So where we stand - Clean XP2 install with GPU driver, Pinnacle driver, Crossbar Thing + dependencies, Virtualdub.

Nothing yet tested or altered beyond getting Crossbar Thing to run.

Standing by for further instructions
