The cheap adapter are cheap for a reason -- they're prone to malfunction.

The JVC C-P7U is what I suggest:
- http://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-VHS-C-Vi...item20c16e85d7 = new, $50
- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jvc-c-p7u-vh...item20c1499bf3 = used, $30

VHS-C tapes are really fragile, and prone to being "eaten" if either the clamshell adapter or VCR is not good at maintaining a smooth and continuous flow of the tape. Any minor jerk will end up making the VCR pull and tug at the tape, resulting in both faulty playback and physical destruction of the media.

You also need to be careful about the VCRs used. Look at a high-end Panasonic S-VHS VCR.

Thanks for your reply but both the adapters you suggested can't be sent to Greece.
I have the JVC HR-S7600 S-VHS VCR.

Search eBay for that model number. There are probably more.
You can also search with similar terms, such as "JVC VHS adapter" or "JVC tape adapter". Try several variations.

Also keep a lookout for SVHS-C camcorders, many times they include the "good" JVC adapter and are the same price as the adapter alone.

i had a VHS-C adapter eat an irreplaceable tape in my Ag-1980
i wont use them anymore

i take the VHS-C tapes apart and transfer the tape inside into a full size VHS tape
it is quite easy and i have plenty of old VHS tapes to use for parts

Was it one of these suggested JVC models? If not, I can see it happening.
There's a reason we only suggest the higher-quality JVC models, which originally came with pricey S-VHS-C camcorders.

This is a good solution, too. It's time consuming, however. And you need to be very careful with alignment of the tape in relation to the reel. Alignment errors are why the adapters are horrible (as are cheap VHS tapes, with their cheap cassettes). You don't want to create the same problem from a sloppy shell transfer.

Just be mindful of these things, and you'll be fine.

It should be.

Do note the text of the auction:
  • Title: NEW JVC C-P6U L Kit1 VHS VHSC adapter New, Old Stock, Complete L-KIT1 NR
  • Description: Sealed. Battery. Cassettes. PLAY VHS C IN VCR. NEW OLD STOCK. COMPLETE. JVC C-P7U VHS/VHSC KIT. WITH JVC TC-20 EHG TAPE. I HAVE NOT OPENED IT.

.... but having batteries, and coming with that specific tape, it should be the good one.
