hiya toonies,
i have had my ati aiw scheduler mis-fire once or twice.
is there a way of guaranteeing it running?
what about other software that might be in conflict with this?
i have the aiw 9800 and am using mmc 9.08.

Nope. All digital equipment tends to misfire in my experience. I have had trouble with pretty much all PVR software and most all DVD recorders to date. This is why I still wake up on Saturday mornings, and make sure I'm home on certain evenings.
The best way I would suggest to minimize PVR problems is to do a fresh reboot prior to the next recording. Then disconnect if from the Internet (release the IPs, don't just unplug cables), and disable all TSR software like anti-virus and firewalls.
Also be sure to run MSCONFIG sometime and disable all non-essential software. This is good general advice. For example, MS Office installs crap that auto-runs when your computer turns on, and it's totally unnecessary. Office will open it anyway if you start Word or whatever, not any reason at all why it needs to run at all times. Lots of software is like this, from printer and scanner tools, to crap that gets installed with games or office software (Adobe and MS are both really guilty about this).

wish i could connect to my pc from work. however, connecting externally from work has been blocked.
yeah, i too sometimes wait right next to the pc when i absolutely must record something.
recently, a friend of mine asked me to record the boxing. it started at 3AM! but i got the job done by staying up all night. next day my mate said he didn't want it! arghhhhhh ...

I have never had a mis-fire on my Happauge TV scheduling program. I have recorded at least 2000 shows on two different PCs and never missed once (due to the scheduling program that is, had the hard drive fill up once or twice ) I do run PC Atomic Sync on my PCs so that they are always synced to the right time, unless you run XP, which one of my recording PCs does now, it will sync on it's own.

Tcel93,
happauge may have better software than ati .. or is it just my pc?
just yesterday, my ati scheduler mis-fired again. though i try to keep the number of "tasks" to a minimum on windows, there are still some i have to keep running. not sure if there is a conflict of some sort.
so overnight i've reverted back to an older version of mmc (9.06) & catalyst (5.12).
really annoying, especially after promising to help curtis out with some recordings.
anyone know what is a "stable" version of mmc & catalyst?
or if there is any known software that will throw ati?

in case i've missed a trick here, is there some other pvr that would be better to use with a 9800 than ati's mmc?
"better" meaning more stability with the scheduler and good/better range of options when recording compared to ati's mmc.
cheers.
