Hi everyone, thanks to the help on this forum I'm really moving along in my video transfer project tests! I probably have ~50 8mm tapes (mostly video8) and I'm eager to find the "perfect" setup so I can start to memorialize them digitally. Am testing HuffYUV, Lagarith, and now MagicYUV to see which works best. I've read that super helpful settings guide as well.

SETUP:
I've got an Osprey 100e PCEI card using svideo that seems to be working great, with output from a Sony GV-D800. I'm using a Windows 10 64-bit PC. I want to optimize these videos for TV viewing.

CHALLENGES
1. No matter what I try, the videos all tend to have a few horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen but I understand these may be expected. Is this fixable?

2. Should I be using 640x480, or 720x480? And if 720, it's not an option for me in CapturePIN. And when I try to change it in Set Custom Video Format, VirtualDub gives me this error "The capture device does not support the selected video format." But, the Osprey 100e specs clearly show it DOES support 720x480 capture. And, should I worry about this - or just capture at 640?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Kris

You may have "square pixel" turned on in your driver settings. This limits the horizontal format.

Try "CCIR-601" and see if you can select 720x480

VirtualDub > capture AVI > set custom format > 720x480
