Hi everyone. Perhaps someone could help me out with this:

I unRARed Huffyuv last night. I copied the dll file and pasted it in my VirtualdubMpeg2 folder.

How do I save my video as a huffyuv instead of an uncompressed AVI? I press "file" on virtualdub when it's time to save my video, but I don't see huffyuv as an option.

Any assistance is appreaciated.

Thanks guys

You have to install Huffyuv into Windows, it can't be copied/pasted.

In Windows XP, you right-click on the .inf file, and go to Install.
In Windows Vista or Windows 7, follow the instructions here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...l-huffyuv.html

Then you can set compression to Huffyuv under Video > Compression.
Then created a new AVI file with File > Save as AVI

In the DOS box I get the following:

"the system cannot find the file specified".

When I unRared the file, I extracted the dll file into my c drive.

Did I do this correctly? or did I miss something?

into my c drive
Where, specifically?
c:\huffyuv.dll
c:\huffyuv.inf

The DLL and INF have to be together for it to work.

And that right-click thing only works on Windows XP.

If using Windows Vista or Win7, re-read the instructions: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...l-huffyuv.html
Everything is covered in detail.
A "file not found" error would mean your command is typed wrong.

both DLL and INF files are in my c drive. As in:

c:\huffyuv.dll
c:\huffyuv.inf

Specifically as the instructions state, I press ctrl and shift and enter simultaneously after getting to cmd.

Step 3 in the instructions indicate the following: "If you've done it correctly, then the little black DOS box will say "Administrator: Command Prompt" in the on-screen text. "

Except the DOS black box does not say that. It simply says

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\myname>

Nonetheless, I typed in the command as is, with the exact space, backslash, etc.

Nothing. I get a message telling me I'm a dumbass.

Now what?

Hey! I don't know how, but it's in my Virtualdub now! But before I get too excited, I have the following questions:

1. It's version 2.1.1- CCESP Patch v0.2.2 - Is this fine?

2. Was it worth the trouble? How is this going to make my saved avi any different (since both, uncompressed avi and huffyuv are supposedly lossless)?

No, your computer will catch fire and melt!

Just kidding, it's fine.

It's the same as Huffyuv "regular" version, but patched to not barf when used with Cinemacraft encoder.

It saves space and processes faster than uncompressed. (Faster due to disk I/O.)
In terms of visual quality, vs uncompressed, it's going to look the same.
