I could crop it out but maybe someone has experienced this before? I see clips on Youtube with similar artifacts even from record label video channels. I think its common with older gear. Is there a script or tool anyone can think of to remove or fix this? Cropping to 704 helps but still leaves a strip visable.

Could be missing color info not recorded by the camera's sensors that was always meant to be hidden due to overscan.

Hm, not sure.

- If VHS, chroma is likely just missing.
- If Hi8, the camcorder may be causing it. This is a known issue, happens with some tapes in some cameras.

Don't crop until any offset is corrected.

In the days of 3-tube cameras, it was difficult to get the red, green, and blue tubes perfectly aligned in the visible area, let alone in the overscan area which no one saw. Somewhere out there is a 1970s clip from the Match Game in which one of the cameras had obviously messed-up colors, and when they switched to another camera, you could hear the camera operator banging on it to get the tubes back in alignment, so that it would be better in time for its next shot.

I've probably seen every episode of Match Game, it's one of my favorites. I remember that episode! I did not realize that was the reason for the production fumble. Did Gene look over, with a smiling "WTF?" face? I saw it maybe a year ago.

Most of those should be on Youtube now, either GSN, Buzzr, or bootleg. If you come across it, post the link here, and PM me so I don't miss it.

I dig this sort of video history.

"Christine has to bang the camera."

This is interesting. That's not the episode I was thinking of. Did this happen more than once?
Maybe I'm thinking of another classic game show...

In that clip, Gene seems to know what is happening, brushed it off quickly, moved on. I remember far more drastic color issues, more banging, more than what we see in that clip.
