Hello,
I am looking for JVC HR-S9600 deck. What is the good price for a "like new" or a few tens of hours used device? I have seen many units, but I don't have much money, and I want to know what is the suitable price.

The 9600 is one of the more prized models from the entire JVC S-VHS line, because of the dynamic drum, and the build quality -- in addition to have all of the TBC/NR and other filters that make JVC S-VHS decks desirable. The same can be said for the 9800 and 9900. As such, these tend to be more babied and coveted by owners, sold less often, and priced a bit higher.

You'll be lucky to find one for less than $200. I generally see these sell for $250-350 (USD).
I've seen them go as high as $700 in new mint-in-box (never used) condition.

Several years ago, I sold a mint almost-unused unit for about $550 or so, including shipping. Original price was $450 shipped. Yes, price went up!

This is in regards to the NTSC models.

PAL models seem to sell for average pricing (150-300 euros). Generally speaking, I think the overall PAL S-VHS VCR audience is maybe less aware of these JVC models, and possibly in less demand. In the past year or two, there's been a fairly ample supply of JVC S-VHS VCRs on eBay, unlike the situation in the mid 2000s.

What is the difference between HR-S9600U and HR-S9600EK? It seems that there is also design difference, not just NTSC/PAL difference. I have some doubts about the features, maybe it is entirely different maschine?

Additional question:
I have some recordings in MESECAM. Is it possible to play them in HR-S9600EK and use DigiPure and TBC features?
More generally, is it possible in any other than EU versions of JVC S-VHS decks?

The recording device(ie. dvd recorder) must also accept MESECAM modulation?

i have a HR-8600 MS (ms stand for mesecam? i'm not sure). What i'm sure is that the tbc don't work with secam tapes (and probably mesecam aswell) . You'd have better chances with panasonic if you want to use the tbc with such hybrid formats imo

- "U" should be NTSC, made for the USA (North American) market.
- "EK" should be PAL, where "EK" denotes the "English Kingdom" (UK), made in Germany, and mostly sold on the British market.
- "MS" stands for "MESECAM", yes, if my memory is correct.

All of these model abbreviations are referenced in a post in the VCR suggestion thread.
Read through the various pages here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...ing-guide.html

SECAM isn't PAL, and PAL VCRs may or may not play them. I don't think I've ever come across a MESECAM tape. That format doesn't really penetrate the "PAL buffer" that surrounds NTSC lands. It also doesn't help that most MESECAM isn't in English, unlike NTSC and PAL.

Some TBCs are attuned to a single format. The AVT-8710 is an exception, but that's not really the same kind of TBC as the one inside the VCR.

It sounds like themaster1 may have more experience with MESECAM than I do.
