The 9600 is one of the more prized models from the entire JVC S-VHS line, because of the dynamic drum, and the build quality -- in addition to have all of the TBC/NR and other filters that make JVC S-VHS decks desirable. The same can be said for the 9800 and 9900. As such, these tend to be more babied and coveted by owners, sold less often, and priced a bit higher.
You'll be lucky to find one for less than $200. I generally see these sell for $250-350 (USD).
I've seen them go as high as $700 in new mint-in-box (never used) condition.
Several years ago, I sold a mint almost-unused unit for about $550 or so, including shipping. Original price was $450 shipped. Yes, price went up!
This is in regards to the NTSC models.
PAL models seem to sell for average pricing (150-300 euros). Generally speaking, I think the overall PAL S-VHS VCR audience is maybe less aware of these JVC models, and possibly in less demand. In the past year or two, there's been a fairly ample supply of JVC S-VHS VCRs on
eBay, unlike the situation in the mid 2000s.
