Hey,

I have the option of buying one of these two VCRs, the JVC HR-DVS1 or the JVC HR-S9600, and I was wondering which one would be better for restoring my old VHS tapes. Does anyone know both devices in terms of TBC and general picture quality? The DVS1 has a mini DV deck which I won't use and the S9600 is generally recommended on these forums, so should I just go with that one?

Thank you!

Edit: There is a quick overview of the DVS1 here.

Had to say. I'd want to know more about the condition of each.

Generally speaking, I always prefer the 9600/9800/9900 decks. The DVS1 is comparable to the SR-V10, which is also one of the better JVC decks.

These days, condition is most important, as none are sold new. You need to watch for head wear, alignment, tracking, chroma noise, audio, and some others aspects that escape me at the moment. When I test gear, I'm thorough. Most sellers just see if it had a picture (ANY picture, good or not!), or sometimes simply powered on. Always press for more. Anybody that doesn't answer your question should be assume to be an a-hole trying to unload junk on unsuspecting newbies.
