Hey. I normally wouldn't post in public but I wanted to follow up on previous PMs and make sure everything's okay. I'm still interested in the TBC-1000. Happy to talk in PMs.
Thanks.

I can't reply to PMs and email fast enough lately. My hands hurt from typing too much recently.
We're good, reply back soon.

I fixed it, I fixed it!
I've had a bad TBC-1000 for a while now. As of tonight, it's working. Not just working, but extremely nicely (clean image, good image values). I've outdone myself. Tests were run with unit dismantled. Rebuild should only take a couple of weeks.
FYI, DataVideo gear often shared various parts. All of the gear is somewhat rare now, or pricey, or both. So this isn't a easy task. I'd finally managed to track down everything needed, and was able to test it. Some of the parts are new, not used.
Now I need some miniature champagne bottles, a shot worth, for nights like tonight.
I've listed it already, it's the rebuilt unit in the 1st post.
It feels good to revive the units. Yet another good TBC will be put back into circulation. The new owner simply needs to take of it! All of this stuff would have surely been destined for the recycle bin, had I not intervened.

Congratulations!
That's a major achievement.
Details would certainly be appreciated.

My story is the same as many others that have found themselves on this forum.
I turn 65 on Jan. 2. hooray for Medicare! haha But it also is a time of reflection and realizing I need to finish the project I stared 15 years ago!
So here I am with my Mac computers yes I have a few and realizing after reading several threads they aren't the best at capturing videos but I am a creature of habit so I am going to make do with it.
I have about 40 VHS tapes to do and 80 of the Video 8 tapes (not sure exactly what to call them).
I have the following equipment:
Sony Video Cassette Recorder Model No: SLV-N88 18
ADVC 300
SONY Digital Handicam DCR-TRV340 NTSC
From the threads I am learning I need some form of TBC. Over the last 15 years I basically only uploaded 4 VHS tapes. Sad I know but maybe it is for the better considering I did it without the TBC in the workflow. Maybe with the TBC my quality will improve because to be honest not the greatest results.
Which TBC from this marketplace would help me?
Should I make any changes from my current equipment?
My goal is to digitalizes the tapes to a hard drive and edit it down into meaningful snippets of our family's life to share with my three kids.
If someone could offer guidance I sure would be grateful.

Yep. Even I have unfinished projects, have been too busy doing projects for others, neglecting myself.

Also yep. Some form of TBC is required, not optional. That ADVC has no TBC (the marketing materials are BS), the Sony VCR has no TBC, and the Sony Digital8 camera should have line TBC for the Hi8 (yet no frame TBC, and it likes to drop frames).

With NTSC only, one of my NTSC-only TBCs would work. Those are generally a better deal than the NTSC+PAL units, when both are available (which doesn't happen often, few decent NTSC-only and PAL-only TBCs exist).

Better capture card, obviously add a good VCR, add a TBC. The camera is fine for those V8/Hi8/D8 tapes.

I had not checked this thread before I sent a PM to you.
Here are my questions sent in PM to you in case it will help others:
Well that V8/Hi8/D8 assignment just took 4 hours out of my life!
81 8mm Tapes (not all checked to see if they have stuff on them, about 12 not labeled so I am not sure what is going on there, I did not take time to check them at this time)
45 regular V8
16 Hi8
20 Hi8/D8 combo
I am running the latest OS on all my Macs Big Sur. 11.0.1
Just so we are super clear I want the best quality whole tape on my computer and from that I am probably going to edit at least 40% out due to boring stuff.
I want to get better equipment but use my Macs.
Right now for 4 VHS I have used the following:
SONY VCR Model No SLV-N88 --> ADVC 300 --> MacPro
Here are the results from the Finder File for one tape 1987 broken in two parts

If I get a better quality VCR and have no line problems can I do this with no TBC?
Also does one even need a TBC for the 8mm stuff?
And how am I doing what I have done so far without a capture card? I don't quite understand is it because I am importing to iMovie media? And that is capturing for me?

That Sony VCR > Canopus DV box isn't going to be very good quality. Passable quality for some folks, but not quality whatsoever. Mediocre at best, unviewable at worst.
VCR with no line TBC needs ES10/15, before actual TBC (or weak TBC'ish DVK).
Yes, the Video8/Hi8 is drop-happy, easy to lose audio sync. Line TBC correct picture, but does nothing for drops (that what frame TBC is for).
Not sure about the last question. Perhaps you refer to Digital8 (DV) over Firewire to the Mac, which needs no capture card, as it's not really "capturing" but downloading digital data from tape to computer.
Remember, this thread is a marketplace listing, not really a general discussion thread. For questions/comments unrelated to the TBCs available for sale here, a new thread in a non-marketplace area needs to be opened.
Again, yes, you need a TBC. Any of the TBCs here will be ideal.

Ok thank you.
Please PM me with what I should get for my project.
Sorry for asking questions here makes perfect sense to be doing this on the workflow threads.
