Honnestly I'm quite sure that I would have never try to compile the three movies on a single disc, even if I know what can be done with KDVD. The only thing that does not please my tastes in what you did is that you had to use the 2.0 audio track to accomplish that.

As myself.

One of my favourite "audio scenes" is first movie, begin, when Trinity is running across the metal roof, and when she meets the truck.
Surely it is not the same with 2.0 audio at 128 kbps, but anyway gamma's work is very nice.

It is certainly an achievment to get all those movies onto one DVD as they all go 2 hours each

The matrix is 2hr 16min, Matrix Reloaded is 2hr 18min & Matrix Revolutions is 2hr 9min.

That is a total of 6hr 43min total. This for one DVD is a hellava lot which is why I never attempted it in the past for fear of bad quality video.

I don't personally feel I could sacrifice the AC3 5.1 audio in favour of the AC3 2.0 as this renders my 5.1 surround system more or less redundant and I love to hear all the effects as if it were in the cinema.

Having said that it is still great that gamma has made these films fit onto one DVDR.

I have been thinking of buying a DVD9 burner then I might attempt to back these 3 up to one DVD.

Yeah, I don't like that either. I haven't got a surround-set so I don't need the 5.1, yet. When I get a surround-set, I definitely make 1:1 backups of these movies!

If memory serves, is the fact that The Matrix series is a pretty dark movie that enables it to compress well?

I have always wanted to put 3 Alien movies onto one DVD. I know what you are going to say: 'There are 4 Alien movies', but lets be honest Alien 3 sucked and I am not including that one.

This post has given me the insperation to try a project with Alien 1,2 & 4.

Those movies should compress well because they are dark as it add to the atmosphere of the movies so hopefully they should compress well.

Alien should compress a lot better. Matrix movies are dark, right, but also a lot more complex (in terms of video encoding) than Alien ones. Much more action and encoder nightmare like rain, flashes, explosions, dust...

hmmm this post is really interesting and definitely proves that KDVD works.

BTW, how much time did it take to encode!!!! (if you remember by now).

PS: I tried doing it using MC MPEG encoder(cos of its speed) with KVCD notch matrices and failed miserably, have to give TMPEGEnc a go.
