I purchased this JVC twelve years ago from a private owner on eBay. I wasn’t ready to use it, but I’d read this was the best deck for capturing old videos because of the internal line-TBC and overall quality. I finally used it to archive 30 family tapes in 2024. It worked flawlessly.
The outside appearance is excellent. The remote looks brand new. I speculate that this JVC hasn’t been used much, but that is just speculation based on how it looks and the many years it was stored in my closet.
I performed light maintenance inside the deck before and after using it. This included blowing out tape fragments with compressed air, cleaning the heads and checking the grease on the tape transport glide tracks. I gently cleaned the heads with isopropyl alcohol and special foam strips for this purpose. There was a clear grease on the tape transport glide tracks when I received the deck. I applied a white silicon grease after I used and cleaned the deck.
This deck comes with the original box and packing, the original red-white-yellow audio-video cable, and an S2 video cable that I purchased as an upgrade. You can download a User’s Manual at porterelectronics.com. Lordsmurf has recommended settings for this JVC on DigiFAQ.com.
