I have a Pioneer CLD-V2600 LaserDisc player. The few times I have used it for capture to my AIW 8500DV I ran the output through my TBC-4000. Recently, though, I saw a poster here state that this was unnecessary with a LD output signal and could actually cause a loss of quality (by the extra step in the equipment chain). What's the straight scoop on this?

Um, that answer could easily be read both ways. Something a little less ambiguous?

In theory, the LD doesn't need TBC.
In practice, it gets murkier. The analog signal on the LD still isn't necessarily perfection, nor the LD player, and can still cause dropped frames. You just need to watch it.

A TBC in the chain also doesn't necessarily harm image quality. Something you look for in a quality TBC is transparency, and that TBC-4000 you got from me should have high transparency.
