Using this for VCR transfer. It has worked previously but now is just omitting B&W. Tried different cables, VCR, monitors, etc. It's definitely the device. Even the "color bars" when no input/out is plugged in is in B&W! Any ideas on how to fix this?

Did you make the mistake of getting the flawed black AVT-8710?

There are others? It was the only one available when I bought it a few years ago.

I bought a black one new about 10 years ago. Worked fine until a few months ago when the picture became unreliable. The problem was two tired capacitors. Replaced them, now working fine.

Sounds very much like a component failure - like TimTape has pointed out. It's almost certainly fixable, but that will depend on your skills and willingness.

If you plug the machine straight into a monitor is it still displaying in monochrome?

All black units are confirmed bad: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vcr-...-8710-doa.html
100% of them.
All sort of flaws, reduced quality components from the original version.

The green units are 99% good.
