Hello, I recently acquired a Panasonic PV-S4266 S-VHS VCR and was able to fix it up to a certain point. Now I get an image on the screen but the video appears to be out of sync (it rolls for a bit and after a while stops and is separated into two halves on top of each other.)

It's quite weird because whenever I press on the fast forward button the image is "fixed" and stays that way for a few seconds until it starts jumping again and gets stuck halfway.

Yes, I know that TBCs exist, but I do not own one nor am I looking to acquire one. I have another VCR that is older and plays every single of tapes I ever threw at it without any issue.

I have tried to clean the head without any success as well. I do not have a camera right now but I will try to post a video soon. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated because I really don't know what I can do now.

One possibility could be that the head switching point is very off. You can try to look for a pot/trimmer, typically labeled PG shifter on the panasonics, and see if it helps to adjust it. It determines where in the picture the vcr switches between the two active video heads on the video head drum. Note the original position before adjusting it though! Adjustment can be very sensitive.

It could be something completely different though, I'm not an expert by any means, but I had something similar happen when tweaking the head switching point it on a panasonic VCR we have.
