This is captured from a PAL VHS with a 1999 analog cable TV program recorded on.

edgeissue.jpg

What is best described as the edge issue?
Also what avisynth/vapoursynth filter/setting is best used to fix this?

If your capture setup allows for it, try changing the YC delay. If the chroma isn't aligned with luma exactly (which is actually fairly common) you'll see a single ghost image shifted usually to the right, more noticeable on brighter objects or at edges of high contrast areas. Also, is this a composite or S-Video Capture from the VCR? Not sure if that matters, but you might try capturing whichever you aren't currently capturing and seeing if there's a difference in the ghosting.

Can probably be mitigated with something like vsLGhost.

This video still sample here has "halo", or "ringing", not chroma offset.

Captured over s-video from a JVC HR S6800EH VCR to a matrox MXO2 mini.
I could also test from composite to see..., or another VCR perhaps.

Yes I was already testing with several filters/settings like:

clip = haf. MCTemporalDenoise(clip,settings="low", edgeclean=True, stabilize=False, maxr=2)
clip = haf.DeHalo_alpha(clip)
clip = core.lghost.LGhost(clip, mode=1, shift=6, intensity=-10)
clip = haf.YAHR(clip)

But I can't get it to go away...

Attached a short sample video for anyone interested to play with:

You might also want to try, BindDeHalo3 (and adjust the settings)

How about
Code:
mode=1, shift=2, intensity=-80
for LGhost? Softens the image but my understanding is oversharpening is what causes this in the first place.

Yes, that seems to make it less noticeable.

Not sure where the oversharpening comes from.. could be recorded that way back in the day or a problem with the VCR.
Have to change hardware and recapture to find out...
