Sample image:

Sample youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THu7kwJXyGc (As lossy as youtube is, the error is significant enough that it's still plainly visible. If anyone reeally wants lossless or uncompressed I can provide that too)

This error is only visible on a relatively small portion of the tape (~20 minutes out of 2.5 hours), and it is visible on both VCRs I have access to (while the rest of the tape plays normally) in both VCRs, a sony SLV-N55 and a JVC SVHS S4600U. This capture is through an AVT-8710 "green" TBC but the error is visible without it as well. I have tried adjusting tracking manually but the image quality only worsens.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Since my image was removed (though it still exists at https://i.imgur.com/xveOR1p.png so I'm not sure why), I'll upload it here as well...

I have also uploaded lossless / uncompressed video samples:

Lossless h264 in mkv(~195MB): https://bugfix.in/ErrorSample_h264.mkv
Lossless huffyuv in mkv (~210MB): https://bugfix.in/ErrorSample_huffyuv.mkv
Uncompressed yuv422 in mkv (~400MB): https://bugfix.in/ErrorSample_uncompressed.mkv

I've seen a similar effect on 2-3 Video8 tapes, seemed to be something with the recording as it was the same in all playback devices I tested. I also got a samsung Hi8 camera that creates this effect on playback of any tape. One of the guide pins that holds the tape up to the video head are missing, so I presume that's why it happens on this specific camera.

Never seen it on VHS, but maybe it's something similar, something could have been loose or broken in the VCR or camcorder when recording.
