I would like advice or corrections on the setup I've acquired.
Panasonic AG-1980P
Pentium 4 Intel D945GNT Mobo 3.0ghz
2.0gb Pc5300 DDR2
Turtle Beach TB400-3355-01 PCI (In transit)
ATI Rage 128 All-In-Wonder PCI (Non-Pro)
Two separate breakout boxes/dongles
Unused
ATI Rage Theater All-In-Wonder AGP 7500
To Purchase
AVT 8710 (Green)
After receiving a failing AG-1980P I was able to obtain a clean, perfectly working one. After a test of multiple tapes and learning the functions it appears I lucked out on this and all seems to be well. Clean signal. Bright display. A cleaning may be in order; but much better quality than my last one I received.
The capture machine was sourced for free; and it only has PCI slots. As for the ATI's; these were both bought new and used for some primitive captures in the early 2000s. I've performed a few test captures with the PCI card (manufactured 1999); and will likely just use it unless there any reason the AGP card (man. 2001) would be superior. With some reading I didn't see anything to suggest it other than being able to use a higher MMC.
The Turtle Beach sound card is a cheap, non-5.1 card. I couldn't source any of my old Soundblaster cards in storage, but from what I've read any cards from a decent company should suffice and work well.
I believe the last piece of the puzzle before I begin learning will be the AVT 8710 (preferably green). When I started putting the project I saw a dozen or so brand new on
Amazon for a decent price (165?) but I am guessing those have all been bought up. I'll keep an eye out for some more to show up.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
