Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post
Hi all

I am still starting out , and learning about how to make good vhs tape conversions. Im busy trying to assemble a reasonable collection of gear to do the job , however finding an okay vcr is proving difficult in my part of the world, cape town SA. I managed to come across a JVC HRS 5950 EU from someone, and was just wondering if any one had experience with that deck and if it is any good for vhs conversions?

thanks

Not really. The 5900 was one of the last VCRs before JVC stopped making S-VHS decks.
The latter-era decks are "middle" quality (early era decks are largely undesirable, with middle-era decks being best regarded).
So it has that working against it.

Then the 5000-series decks lack the various features and filters that make S-VHS VCRs worthwhile.
So it has two things working against it.

I'd pass on it. It's worth maybe $50 (USD) in like-new condition.
