My current workflow is as follows. Keep in mind this is all in the context of PAL (Australia).

NV-FS200EG ----S-Video----> DMR-ES15 ----S-Video----> AIW 9000 Pro

The purpose is to convert my collection of home movies (VHS-C).

According to this guide using SCART output from the ES15 is a must due to brightness variation.

My question is will connecting via SCART improve anything for me here?
Does anyone here have experience with this specific scenario?

ES15 is not a TBC, but contains a strnog+crippled line TBC. That overlaps with the NV-FS200 field TBC, and is actually generally inferior. What you still lack is frame TBC.

The ES15 is redundant and unneeded here (unless tearing that the FS200 fails at), and then you lack actual frame TBC.

There's a lot of bad info lately regarding ES15, and sadly you got snared by the BS.

Thank you for responding Lord Smurf.

I did try the NV-FS200 TBC without the ES15 first and was getting odd "frozen" image behaviour when capturing. Easiest way to describe without uploading a sample is the video image would freeze at random points.

Bringing the ES15 into this resolved that issue for my case, but I will test out both combinations on a tape-by-tape basis.

That "freeze" issue may be down to lack of frame TBC, combined with AIW capture card. The AIW can be touchy to lack of frame correction, and the ES15 may appease it just enough to sometimes be viable. But in general, you'll have a tough time. The ES15 luma issue will be especially ugly to overcome, and it just dupes a lot of frames in general.

I know the AUD<>USD exchange rate is not great lately, hence why some down under try to avoid TBCs.

Are there any settings I can change to make the AIW less touchy or is using he ES15 my best bet at the moment?

Am I right to assume to have TBC turned off on the NV-FS200 while ES15 is in play?

Totally unrelated I'm currently accepting donations in the form of frame TBC's LOL

VCR TBC off when ES15 (always on) in chain. If VCR TBC on, then ES15 does literally nothing as a TBC, only uses non-TBC frame sync. Plus you still get all negatives of ES15.
