Hi,

Looking to use Hybrid 2020 to convert lossless avi huffyuv to h.264 (mp4).

This is mostly for PC playback or streaming to smart TVs etc from a NAS drive over ethernet.

So I am looking for smaller file sizes whilst keeping some quality.

Whilst doing so, also looking to deinterlace with QTGMC.

My footage is pal 720x576@25fps interlaced from old Hi8/Video 8 tapes.

Questions I need some expert advice on:

Video settings: your thoughts?

Encoding mode: 1pass CRF
Quantization factor: 18
Calculation precision: What should this be?
Output colour space: i422
AVC profile: High4:2:2 unrestricted
Preset: Medium

Crop/Resize Settings: your thoughts?

Should I just leave as output 720x576?
Output PAR: leave o go for MP4 PAL 4:3?

QTGMC settings: your thoughts?
Preset - Fast or medium?
Bob - assume enabled to get 50fps with less loss of quality?

Audio Settings: your thoughts?
Formataac
Bitrate: 384 or overkill? 192 more suited given source perhaps?

Any other hybrid settings I need to lookout for or enable/disable as new to the program?

Thank you.

Full settings are:

I’m in the same boat as you, just a step behind because I can’t figure out how to get huffyuv to show up in VDub. From most things that I’ve read on here I’ve taken it as if you can leave most of the settings as default on Hybrid, however I’m not entirely sure. Could really use someone that knows what they’re talking about here.

For that, see http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...html#post11627

Just put the files in C:\ drive, then follow instructions.

It will then appear on vdub.

Many, not all. And it depends on both source (VHS, BD, etc) and output (compressed, less compressed archive, etc).

Good to know.

For that source, I'd do CRF 15, 422, 8bit.
But I also make a lot of changes in the advanced. The default GOP/frame defaults are too low, compression not ideal. I'm not at my video system right now to paste it. But the two sliders are slid over the 5 frame each.

720x540 for a 4:3 watch/display ratio

Faster
Bob for 50
Remember to force, not auto.
Overwrite(force) top(TFF)

FDKAAC 160
Anything over 160 for stereo is overkill. AAC isn't MP3. Bitrates as low as 96 are very adequate.

Frame, NR 1 helps compression quite a bit.
Adaptive quant manual, Trellis always

Hi,

Thanks so as per pic attachments / your advice:

Frames - Look ok?
Rate Control - anything there?
Quant- Look ok?
Deinterlace - I had to click auto inorder to set QTGMC? I assume this forces it??

Is there a problem with leaving resolution at 720x576?

Thank you.

I'm in the exact same situation as you are. What settings did you end up using? Do you mind sharing screenshots?

Also, is there a difference between using QTGMC with AviSynth and using QTGMC with VapourSynth? Is any of the two better?

Would you give different advice for a VHS source? And what about a VHS of an animated (Disney) movie?

I also am in this boat but in NTSC. I did some renders with the settings LordSmurf showed from his screenshots but the movement looks strange like it has a shadowed image following behind the movement. Has anyone else had this kind of issue?

Also do the other multitude of tabs require any changes for doing a starting deinterlace?

Thank you
